Success CAN BE had in a pair of SNEAKERS

Success CAN BE had in a pair of SNEAKERS

Recently I attended a luncheon purposefully put together to support the success of women who have come from struggles, taking note of the postural problems in the room as well as my own personal problem after a few hours…. MY HEELS WERE KILLING ME! Hiding in a corner, removing them from my feet or making a few additional trips to the bathroom just so I could take them off quickly encouraged silent laughter in my head and a bit of thought for sharing. WHY ON EARTH HAD I CHOSEN TO WEAR THEM?! Well I suppose it was an effort to match the appropriate dress.  Certainly they were comfortable in the store, but then again I walked from the stool to the mirror and back.  This sparked a great business idea, a shoe store that provides complimentary drinks and the opportunity to strut yourself while having great conversation for atleast an hour to ensure the success of your purchase!  On second thought who has that kind of time?!  Neat as it was, it would certainly support the idea that in order to “meet the grade” we need to learn how to polish ourselves in clothing, accessories and most importantly SHOES!  High heeled to be exact. Quote after quote, picture upon picture on the web reinforce that a great pair of high heels is almost a requirement for success.  From rules for interview shoes to books that speak of success from a pair of heels, one thing is for certain, if I WANT success I have GOT TO LEARN how to wear this fashion statement and fast! Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting a pair of sneakers for an interview and there are times and places for certain shoes but it is also important to commend those who don’t find their everyday wear “dressing the part.” There is an unspoken reality that needs to be shouted from the rooftop here…. Success CAN BE had in a pair of SNEAKERS! Type into Google “High Heel Success” and there are “About 13,500,000 results (0.30 seconds).”  There is nothing I appreciate more than a woman who can “own” a great pair of shoes!  In fact not only do I appreciate them, I have a bit of an envious admiration for them! I will be the first to admit that a new outfit can make you feel a bit more confident, it can bring about an energy that people are more attracted.  It CAN ALSO be the “dull to your light.”  So thinking that this is a requirement for success is simply counterproductive to the very purpose of strengthening you as a successful woman in life.  Not just in business.  Suggesting that success only comes from a pair of heels is similar to saying that males only get the really important jobs.  It is just not true. The painful (literally) reflection of my day in heels sparked the desire to share with the world my “succes shoes” along with seeking out the history behind this nonsense.  Some will say that heels were invented to slow women down. This I might agree with as I am often finding myself strutting quickly into an event, heels in hand in hopes that no one will see me! Others say that they actually began on the feet of men and with the evolution of the sex symbol and prostitution came to be the shoe of choice for women.  Whatever the history, the more important piece is the role that it plays in your mind.  Does it support you?  Does it stunt your growth? Here’s what I say. If you can’t “own them” then you don’t belong in them.  Spend a bit more time and money to make sure that you are comfortable from foot to head so that you can ooze that confidence of who you are to others.  People can see “fake” so don’t let someone fool you into believing they can’t.  You can’t hide being uncomfortable.  You can’t be you trying to be something that someone else is looking at it if you aren’t feeling like yourself. After all, isn’t...
